These wonders fill our lives, on a daily basis with joy, love, laughter, fun and sometimes grief. We are the proud owners of 8 female adults, 4 juveniles and 3 males. This is our first attempt at reaching a broader audience, so we hope you will contact us if you would like more information about this amazing little breed of dog.
Chihuahua's are a very old breed, dating back to Aztec civilization. They are a saucy little breed with some terrier like qualities, although very affectionate and fircrcely loyal. They are long lived, in some cases, into their 20's.
It is a common misnomer that this breed comes in a "Teacup" size. The entire breed of Chihuahua is a "Toy" breed and it is only the unscrupulous, unknowledgeable breeder who will try to sell you such a dog. It's even more common for them to actually ask more for it. All too often these (Teacups) are not without medical problems, the most common being a heart murmur. Please ask the breeder about any genetic issues known to this breed. A knowledgeable one will tell you that Heart Murmur, patellar luxation, glaucoma and Legs Perth, being the most common. The breed stadard for a Chihuahua is to be no less then 2 and more then 6 pounds as an adult dog. That is not to say that we do not see larger, and somewhat less common, smaller versions of this breed.
It is our goal at TJKDOGS to produce the most socialized, sound, healthy Chihuahua that adheres to the breed standard in all manners. We are constantly striving for excelence, seldom repeating a breeding, always attempting something better. Those of us who have been doing this for some time recognize and seek out the very best breeding for our dogs. it is not without many attempts, much heartache, and many good byes, to get to where we are today. We are beholden to a standard that is always higher with each planned breeding. Many are years in the making. It is not uncommon for litters to be entirely spoken for prior to their birth, because it has been planned so long.
We invite you to visit our home; all of our dogs are our beloved pets. They are in our laps, on our couch,(at our table if we let them) and in our beds.
